“Money20/20 is that space – where technology meets money, money meets people, people meet ideas and ideas become reality.” (Money2020.com)
With visionaries and innovators from all over, Money 20/20 Europe kicked off with marvellous speakers who inspire and share their ideas and thoughts about the financial and technological world we live in today. Together they vide the perspective of payments where inventing new ways to spend, manage, save, borrow, share and protect money is the sole focus.
“It’s difficult to know where to place your bets… But it’s foolish to think you can do it all yourself… In this interconnected world… we need to collaborate.”
Ashok Vaswani, CEO, Barclays UK
“The principal of innovation is a simple one… It is more about our customers’ innovation than about ours… What we can do to help their business in the next 5-10 years?”
Wiebe Draijer, Chairman Executive Board, Rabobank
“Millennials would rather go to the dentist than go to a bank”
Carlos Torres Vila, CEO, BBVA
“Data is the oxygen of our financial lives… the people that manage it best will be the winners.”
Antony Jenkins, Executive Chairman & Founder, 10x Future Technologies
Jack Dorsey, CEO and founder of Square wanted to highlight how many people talk about all the ideas and dreams they have – “what if, what if” – instead of just doing it. The faster you start working with you dreams and ideas, the faster you will be able to answer your “what if” questions. And from here on out you will learn and grow with showing people your business.
Carlos Torres Vila, CEO of BBVA talked about people and how they, as mentioned above, rather would go to the dentist than to a bank. He said:
“More than a third of people, in the middle class, don’t have the most basic financial habit – which is to save for an emergency. If you don’t do that, an emergency comes always, and you end up in a hole that makes it hard to come out of”.
Carlson then states later on in an interview:
“Through technology we can help people make better decisions for themselves, providing them a peace of mind”.
Money 20/20 lasted for three days – three exciting and motivating days with speakers who shared valuable insight in their own world of technology and finance.
“We need to work together to commercialise blockchain”
Dr Won-Pyo Hong, President, Samsung SDS
“We’ve been sitting on our network for 20/30 years and it took innovators to come along and realise the vision for it”
Jim McCarthy, EVP, Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, Visa
“If there’s one thing we’ve learnt at Google it’s that there’s always value in shaving off that extra millisecond”
Gerardo Capiel, Director of Product Management, Consumer Payments, Google
“What matters is using technology to drive financial inclusion and a cashless society.”
Rita Liu, Head of EMEA, Alipay
“I love talking to entrepreneurs… What they’re doing is disaggregating traditional financial services and reimaging how to deliver these products and services.”
Jonathan Larsen, Chief Innovation Officer, Ping An Group; Chairman & CEO, Ping An Global Voyager Fund
“By design, the Internet is borderless… but when it comes to online commerce we’ve grafted borders back on the map…”
Will Gaybrick, Chief Financial Officer, Stripe
Will Gaybrick, Chief Fiancial Officer of Stripe talks about “the identity crisis of money on the internet”. How do you know that your sellers are, whom they say they are? How can we know for sure if your money is not being used for terrorist financing or laundered? Food for thought…
Looking forward to the next inspiring Money 20/20 event in Asia, March 2018!
